Keep safe, keep singing, keep playing!
A past student of top theatre schools and vocal coaches, Alicia has an in depth understanding of the voice and the mechanics behind it. Equipped with bountiful exercises and methods to get vocals working and improving, Alicia is sure to have you reaching your potential! Her effective teaching method draws on her extensive performance history, and combines her vast musical knowledge with her interest in vocal science and ongoing studies of various methods, techniques and principles, including Estill Voice Training and Somatic Voicework™.
WHAT WILL VOCAL LESSONS GIVE ME?
Alicia's number one aim is to give you complete vocal and expressive freedom. You'll work towards...
- eliminating strain and make singing a safe and comfortable activity
- building self-confidence alongside self-awareness
- breath control and management
- using song as a tool of expression
- developing tone and pitch, working towards stronger delivery and the expanding of vocal range
- introducing you to recording, audition and performance techniques, including dramatic ability
- improving your understanding of music theory and songwriting
WHO DO YOU TEACH?
The simple answer is 'everyone'. All ages (6+) and abilities are welcome, whether you're a complete beginner wanting to gain confidence in your voice or a more experienced vocalist who's looking to refine your technique! Each lesson is catered to the individual needs of the student, so no matter what your goal Alicia will work with your ambitions in mind.
Alicia works with both professional and beginner voices and has aided students in preparing for and landing West End roles and commercial work, in auditioning for Am Dram societies and achieving principal roles in local productions, and in attaining A-Level and GCSE Music. She has further helped students prepare and record songs for special occasions and warmly welcomes students who simply wish to have fun and gain confidence in their own voice.
Alicia has worked successfully with a vast variety of students, including those with ADHD, Autism, learning difficulties, alongside high-functioning anxiety and other mental health conditions. She welcomes all who wish to sing!
WHAT STYLES DO YOU TEACH?
Alicia is a versatile singer with a background in various styles from musical theatre to blues and offers an insightful understanding of individual genre techniques. She is happy to welcome students singing Pop, Rock, Folk, Funk, Jazz, Blues, Soul and Musical Theatre.
HOW MUCH DO LESSONS COST?
A one hour lesson with Alicia costs £35. Half an hour lessons are available for children aged 10 and under. Visit the Lessons page for more information on 5-lesson and 10-lesson block booking discounts.
WHERE ARE LESSONS BASED?
Lessons are based at Alicia's home studio in Rayleigh, Essex. Students are taught in a comfortable, soundproofed environment where they can sing in confidence!
WHAT HAPPENS IN A NORMAL LESSON?
Lessons are one hour long opposed to the usual 45 minutes to allow for a thorough warm up and warm down of the vocal muscles. A regular lesson begins with 15 minute warm ups, followed by specific functional technique work before moving onto the selected 'song project'. Students will work on a song for a number of lessons, integrating technique work in an enjoyable manner. At the end of the lesson, students will leave with exercises to continue their development at home. These will be accessible via the website's Student Area or via a CD provided in lesson.
DO I HAVE TO PRACTICE?
As the saying goes, 'practice makes perfect'! The voice is made up of muscles and, as with that six-pack, it requires regular training (or visits to the gym) to get it into shape. Alicia will talk you through what and how to practice between each lesson. She'll also direct you to her online student area where she posts a vast array of musical patterns, ear training, repertoire resources and helpful links!
LESSONS FOR CHILDREN?
Alicia has a vast background in working with children and has taught music to students as young as five years old! Working with young students is a passion of Alicia's and it is a privilege to begin them on their musical journey - all Alicia asks is that children attend lessons with a love of singing! In the past, Alicia has worked as an Au Pair and English teacher, volunteered with mentoring and paired reading schemes, as well as teaching freelance for children's performing arts schools. Alicia holds an Enhanced DBS and currently accepts students aged 6+.
CAN I COMBINE MY SINGING LESSON WITH GUITAR LESSONS?
Of course! Many students like the ability to accompany themselves on guitar. Get in touch with Alicia to discuss lesson options.
DO YOU OFFER GIFT VOUCHERS?
Yes! Contact Alicia with your requirements and she'll work with you to make your suprise gift of singing a success.
